What is your system of choice?

Postby Snoring Rock » Wed May 21, 2014 1:44 pm

Just an un-official survey. I play Castles and Crusades (TLG) and I use both Judges Guild and Necromancer Games versions of the Wilderlands as my go-to campaign.

B/X/Cyclopedia/Labyrinth Lord or Castles & Crusades, depending on the granularity desired by the players. I used D&D 3E in the past (no longer), and I've offered to run it with GURPS, but no bites by the players...

Well, that's just about one vote for everything! ODD, BECMI, 1st ed, C&C, Pathfinder.

Everything I guess a Wilderlands fan might be interested in, that is. Not at all what I expected!

I'd like to get a lot more folks weighing in, so we can get a better idea.

Or has this been asked on Facebook, which gets a lot of participation?

RuneQuest 2nd edition (by Chaosium). I've played and run every imaginable type of game with it, including most of the TSR D&D/AD&D modules and, of course, every JG RuneQuest module (Duck Tower is still one of my favourites).

These days my systems of choice would be:

OD&D (I am currently running a play by post OD&D Wilderlands campaign)
Burning Wheel (we have a group that has run a few campaigns in Blackmoor using this system)
RuneQuest
Torchbearer (I want to try this out sometime)

Back in (gulp!) 1976 (?) RuneQuest 2 (the original RQ 2, before AH, Mongoose, etc). Nowadays, it's Tunnels & Trolls. Every so often, I'll go back to Castles & Crusades (Which is what I think D&D would have been, with strong editing and 20 years of experience.) and our youngest grandson HATES rules, so we tend to use Hero Kids.

Since I've been GMing since 1975 or so, I have absolutely no problem converting from any system to any other. If you don't mess with the system, you ain't rolegaming. (Especially if you screw everything up. In Call of Cthulhu, breaking the rules is a definite plus.)
